Koh Chang weather today: what early November feels like

Seasons4 min read

Early November is the tail end of the rainy season: the rain is easing, the sea is settling and the jungle is at its greenest. Here is what that means day to day, and how to read a forecast for the island.

Today is 6 November, and on Koh Chang that means the rainy season is easing. Expect warm air, a green island, a mix of sun and the odd shower, and a sea that is calming down on the west coast. It is not the dry, blue-sky weather of December yet, but it is close, and the mood is fresh rather than heavy.

We can tell you what the month is usually like. We cannot promise what the sky will do this afternoon, and nobody can. This note explains what to expect and how to use a forecast sensibly.

Early November in a paragraph

November sits between two moods. The rain is easing and the island is fresh and green. The sea on the west coast is calming. The crowds are building, but they are not yet the busy weeks of December and January. If you like a quiet beach and still want a good chance of sun, this is a pleasant time to be here.

The rain on Koh Chang tends to come in heavy bursts with sunshine in between, and some days are grey from start to finish. That pattern is gentler now than it was in the wetter months, and it is why the island looks the way it does: dense, glossy and full of running water.

The numbers on Lonely Beach

The live box on our site pulls air and sea readings from Open-Meteo each time you visit. At the time of writing it shows the air at around 30°C, the sea at around 29°C and sunset at around 18:00. Treat those as a snapshot: the live figure is the one to trust on the day.

In practical terms, the sea is warm enough that you never need to think about it, and the sun sets early enough that dinner on the deck comes at a sensible hour. If you want the sunset, be in your seat twenty minutes before. Our month by month weather guide shows how this compares with the rest of the year.

How to read a forecast here

A long range forecast looks reassuring, but we would not plan around the far end of it. On this island the rain arrives in bursts and moves on, so a rain symbol on a given day rarely means a washed-out day. We would look at the next two or three days and treat everything beyond that as a rough guide.

  • Check the morning. If it is clear and calm at breakfast, that is the time for a boat trip or a waterfall.
  • Look at the sea, not just the rain. Boat trips depend on the waves. On rough days they are called off, so ask the tour desk rather than guessing.
  • Keep boat days flexible. Plan them early in your stay so you have a spare day if one is cancelled.
  • Radar. We do not run a rain radar of our own. A weather app will show you whether a shower is heading your way.

Open-Meteo, the source behind the readings above, also publishes weather and marine data if you like to check wave conditions for yourself.

What to do when it rains

Rain is a reason to change the plan, not to cancel the day. Waterfalls are at their fullest from roughly July to November, so this is a good time to go. Klong Plu opens 08:00 to 16:30 and Than Mayom 09:00 to 16:30, and one ฿200 ticket for foreign visitors covers both on the same day. After very heavy rain the trails are slippery and the pools can run fast and brown, so stay out of the water then. Our waterfall guide has the details.

For the rest of a wet afternoon:

  • A Thai massage, then a hammock in a covered sala.
  • Yoga. BB Gym on Lonely Beach runs classes at 10:00 and 18:30, and Blue Lagoon in Klong Prao teaches from November to April with ฿300 drop-in classes. Check the timetable first, as it changes with the season.
  • A long Thai lunch, with green curry if you like it.
  • Watching the weather roll in from under the thatch, which is more restful than it sounds.

The sea settles through November, which is good news for snorkelling. The calmest and clearest water around Koh Rang comes roughly from November to April, so as the month goes on your chances improve. The snorkelling and island hopping guide explains how the trips work.

What to pack and what it costs

Bring a light rain jacket, a dry bag for your phone and quick-dry clothes, along with sunscreen, a hat, sandals with grip and insect repellent. From November you will also want a snorkel mask if you own one, a rash vest and sunglasses.

At Paradise Cottage, high season rates run from October to May. As an estimate, a Front Sea View bungalow with air conditioning is about ฿1,500 to ฿2,500 a night and a Garden Bungalow with a fan about ฿1,000 to ฿1,800, with 7% VAT included. The actual price depends on your dates and how busy we are, so message the team on WhatsApp for a firm figure.

Our honest summary

Early November is a good time for a quiet, green stay with a warm sea. Expect some showers, keep one day free for boats and let the weather set the pace.

Quick answers

What is the weather like on Koh Chang in early November?

The rainy season is easing, so expect warm air, a green island, a mix of sun and showers and a sea that is calming on the west coast. It is quieter than December and January, though visitor numbers are building.

Can I trust a long range forecast for Koh Chang?

Use it as a rough guide only. Rain on Koh Chang comes in short heavy bursts with sunshine between, so we would rely on the next two or three days and check again each morning.

Is it still raining on Koh Chang in November?

Some rain is likely, but it is easing compared with the wetter months. Showers come in bursts rather than all day, though a grey day is still possible.

Will boat trips run in early November?

Often yes, as the sea is calming, but trips depend on the waves and can be cancelled on rough days. Plan snorkelling early in your stay and keep a spare day.
